The arrest took place the organization of the show in a popular Khartoum club on Thursday evening. Fashion shows are not a novelty in the Sudanese capital, but it was the first to feature male and female models parading under the same roof there.

“I spent the night in jail but it is not clear why they arrested us,” Sudan-born male model Rashad el-Nimeiry, who holds US nationality, told AFP on Friday after his release with all the arrested people.

The model further wondered “We were decently dressed. There were wedding clothes”.

During Thursday’s fashion show, male models showed Western outfits, parading with their shirts unbuttoned, while their female counterparts wore classical party clothes.

There was no immediate explanation from police on Friday as to why they were arrested. However, many were told to appear on Sunday before the state prosecutor amid speculation that they could be charged with indecency.

One of arrested model said prison guards insulted them. “In prison, the guards called me ‘you gay’,” he said.

Asked if they had been accused of specific crime or any violation of the law, many of the arrested said ignoring the reason.

“I don’t know what will happen on Sunday. This (fashion show) is a new thing in Sudan and they don’t know what to do with us,” a model said.

Islamic law implemented only in northern Sudan stipulates a maximum of 40 lashes for wearing clothing deemed to be indecent.

Holy God. I don’t know what these hypocrites are intending to reach Sudan to, is there any sense in harassing ordinary people doing ordinary things such as (traditional) fashion show… that faked Islam in Sudan will only lead to destruction and more tyranny , may God help Sudan from such devil’s practicing.

The Islamists, including the new generation in Sudan have sexual obsession. Even in the shop where women clothes are sold, are not allowed to use images, because it instigate sexual desire for the passerbyes. So to see a woman in cloths on stage was great offensive. sudanese man or a woman recently comes out of Sudan to any other free country is well known on the streets due to their behavoirs. They keep on looking how people walk? how they dress?. One day I we travelled with one of the guys it was first time for him to be out of Sudan since Islamist took over power; he asked: Are all these guys walking couples man and a woman are married? I said yes; their governemnt has collective marriage program like in Sudan. But here their governemnt pays all the expenses, including the living and education of the prospect childrens, I added.

So the designers are stupids to loose their time, showing things to people who don’t know its value. I believe the, North Sudan will know the value of such things in year 2040!

I will be ok without those Northerners because they only thing that they know is primitiveness. The country men or women must be free to wear anything they like. The country can not function unders Islamic law,not at all.
South Sudan is better off without Northerner Sudan because they know less about freedom of everything. Good luck Islamic North.

This is why the proud Africans in South must vote for separation in 2011. We can’t mix ourselves with fogies, arabs are known worldwide for this backwardness. To hell with Islamic group in north.

Let me show you whom you should arrest. Yesterday in Bor Town, Albino Allan was almost murdered in cold blood by Bor Dinka armed thugs who tried to kill him for being a youth from Murle. Is this the CPA/SPLA era we are expecting to enjoy shortly. What will happen fn the same is done to any Bor Dinka every where in Sudan? The result will be a civil war While the jalaba are planning their dirty game against all of us

In the above incident, people are struggling under the Khartoum tirany of aljabha alqomiya, while in Bor, all the non-Dinka must be attacked and killed in the broad day light. These crimes are committed by the police, the army and the intellectuals alike. Try to learn how to live peacefully with others. Those who tried to kill Albino, two of them were from wild life and prisons respectively before they were joined by other 5 people who were waiting outside. This guy escaped away with a dear life after they started to arrive into the would-be murder or crime scene.
