June 30, 2010 (RUMBEK) – A Kenyan diplomat in Southern Sudan said his government would give special consideration to the capacity building program in Lakes state in particular and Southern Sudan in general.

The governor of Lakes state, Chol Tong Mayay, appealed to the Kenyan Consul General in Juba, Dr. Joseph K. Kiplagat, to support the capacity building programs in the state, explaining that the issue is a big concern to upgrade the skills of staff in the state. Dr. Kiplagat said a special attention will be considered.

Grace Kiplagat, wife of the diplomat, told the dinner gathering that Kenya relationship with Southern Sudan is heavy stone that a child could not play with. “We are brothers and sisters, we will not leave Southern Sudan behind or ourselves as individuals. We will stand together to accept Southern Sudan’s choice in the referendum,” she said.

However, Kenya community residing in Lakes state presented complaints to their Kenyan official, saying they are overwhelmed by harassments carried out by citizens in the area especially in places such as bars and migration offices in the state capital, Rumbek.

In his response, governor Tong ensured that the migration office in Rumbek will be given positive directives to ensure that respect plus rule of law and regulation of migration are implemented correctly in order to avoid misunderstanding between foreigners entering or residing in the state.

Kenya to support capacity building in Lakes state
Kenya to support capacity building in Lakes state so far, is a nice and welcomed dev’t in a sense that it’s exceptional, given the prestige and gravitas that comes with it. Kenya holds special position with regard to South Sudan, they championed CPA that will forever brings freedom to all.

It’s a positive move by the new gov. and governor Chol Tong in particular. This comes as a result of an approperiate & tactical approach that the previous state’s adminstrations can not do given their lack of means to convince anyone.
