Sudanese war planes bomb South Darfur villages – rebels
September 23, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese military warplanes bombed during the last two days villages in southern and eastern Jebel Marra killing 18 people, the rebel Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) said on Thursday.
The bombing, which started on Wednesday and resumed today, killed 18 people including three children, four women and eight old men, he further said.
The Sudanese army bombs regularly the positions of the rebel group which is not part in the Doha peace talks.
The Paris based SLM/A leader, Abdel Wahid Al-Nur asks Khartoum to disarm militias and to reestablish security in the restive region to crate suitable atmosphere for the return of displaced civilians to their homeland.
The government announced a new strategy to end the seven year conflict based on the return of IDPs to their villages, development projects and involving local authorities and civil society in the peace process.
The government also for the first time since six months allowed UNICEF, and World Health Organization and aid groups as the French MDM to reach Jebel Marra as part of this new policy aiming to build confidence and to have a new approach with the civilians.
However, Nimir said the army forces in Draibat prevented UNICEF and MDM from supplying areas under rebels’ control with school material and medication.
“They stopped a convey heading from Nyala to Fina in Kadmir,” Nimir said.
The rebel military official said the humanitarian situation in the region is very critical. He further urged the international community on the eve of a special meeting on Sudan in New York to put pressure on the Sudanese government to allow the distribution of food and medicine in the region.
He also said the international community has to press Khartoum to withdraw Ugandan rebels of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) from the region. The SLA spokesperson said the LRA fighters are in Kanja and Radoom.
This is not the first time that a rebel group claims that the LRA elements exist in the region. This month the rebel Liberation and Justice Movement said the Ugandan rebels clashed twice with their fighters in South Darfur near the border with the Central African Republic.
Nimir declared they are willing to cooperate with Uganda, Southern Sudan, Central African Republic, and Congo to face the danger coming from the LRA rebels in the region.

The conflict escalations from the side of the Government of Sudan is because the International Community shown nothing except smiles for the National Congress Party, while they continue on their genocide over the people of Darfur. I am afraid such silence from the International Community may encourage NCP to open fires on all side in Sudan.
I warn those assembling for UN summit in USA that if they delay their severe warnings to NCP then the International Community will find itself working to stop another genocide when its will be too late. Secretary Clinton is right when she said Sudan is a ticking time bomb.

As the International Community shifted focus only on the referendum of South Sudan transfer of military equipments and war machinery to Darfur is heavily taking place as part of regime’s preparation to launch a war of protecting its soul against people of South Sudan and Darfur. Last week the regime transferred 45 TR tanks to Nyalla South Darfur; while other tanks and war machinery entered Darfur through Chad crossing the boarder via Foro baranga area of Western Darfur. Furthermore; the regime of Khartoum engaged these days in active program of remobilizing, financing and arming its proxy Janjaweed militias especially round Idd El-Firsan areas to launch its fight against the referendum of South Sudan, in addition to make use of LRA militias exist in Southern Darfur and in central Africa republic boarder. As today; eyes are focusing on new York meetings, to reinforce the will of implementing the CPA on the two parties, including conducting fair and timely referendum and stop the killings in Darfur, but the realities on the ground are saying otherwise, thus in my opinion nothing fruitful will come out of these talks as the NCP is adamant to renege the CPA and continue the genocide in Darfur. Lastly, regarding the ongoing bombardment of civilian targets in Darfur, the regime is making use of shortcomings of the watered-down 1769 resolution to continue the genocide; therefore I urge the dangerously polarized and politicized UNSC to urgently address the deficiencies of its teeth less 1769 resolution by imposing a non-fly zone in Darfur and disarmi Janjaweed militias if they are serious to stop the killings of innocent civilians in Darfur for history will harshly judge those who had the a bility to stop the Darfur genocide and failed to do.
