Taha, Kiir discuss troop buildup on Sudan’s North-South borders

October 12, 2010 (JUBA) – The Sudanese First Vice President Salva Kiir and 2nd Vice president Ali Osman Taha met in Juba today to discuss a number of issues including the reported military build-up on the North-South border, state media reported today.

Sudan official news agency (SUNA) cited Kiir as saying that both sides agreed to calm the situation and stop the media escalation between the National Congress Party (NCP) and Sudan people Liberation Movement (SPLM).

Kiir said that the joint defense council and the ceasefire monitoring body has been instructed to increase its activities.

Last week, Sudanese armed forces (SAF) accused the SPLA of amassing troops along the borders of the southern state of Upper Nile state and White Nile in the North. The Northern army spokesperson warned that holding the referendum might not be possible if these violations continue.

The SPLA denied the accusations and called for a independent monitors to verify these claims.

Kiir had asked the visiting United Nations Security Council (UNSC) delegation last week to authorize deployment of UN troops along the North-South borders. The diplomats said the request would be considered but they made no promises to Kiir.

The NCP flatly rejected any such consideration for such a request by the council.

In his meeting with Taha, the First VP said that a presidency meeting would convene next week to review the progress in implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

Sudan’s oil-producing south is three months away from the scheduled start of a politically sensitive referendum on whether to secede or stay part of Sudan, a vote promised in a 2005 peace deal that ended decades of civil war with the north.

Sudan’s Muslim north and its south, where most follow Christianity and traditional beliefs, have still not agreed on the position of their shared border and analysts fear conflict could re-erupt in contested zones, some of which contain oil.

Taha, Kiir discuss troop buildup on Sudan’s North-South borders
How can discussion take place without accurate information? I think it is quite inappropriate for Kirr to deem the troop deployment along the borders as media exaggeration. If his military spokesman Kuol acknowledges SAF troop deployment, then it must have come from a reputable source such as SPLA security intelligence. Kirr need needs to consult and confirm with his intelligence that such claims are true. If so then, it becomes the chief role of Mai and other generals to do what is “necessary” with the consent of the Commander-in chief. Commander-in-chief can then choose to deny any allegations of any deployment of its troops along the borders with pretext of abiding with CPA. This is high level politics because we are dealing with a partner whose intentions are conspicuous.

NCP must be dealt with in a speedy and retaliatory manner. We need to project our power at all levels.

Taha, Kiir discuss troop buildup on Sudan’s North-South borders
It is a big mistake for the Government of Southern Sudan under Salva Kiir Miyardit to allow the Northern Sudan army in order to straddling their feet again in the South. What is the purpose of those army troops of the Northern Sudan which were brought to the border of Abyei, Ruweng and Panaruu? Why Omar Beshir brought these troops to the border? Salva Kiir Miyardit is less productive in the preparation of the up-coming referundum. Omar Beshir is not playing with the Southerners, otherwise Salva Kiir will face the risky in the coming event if he wanted to sustain his political move in this way without changing it. Salva Kiir Miyardit need to know that not everything can be suppressed or taken as slow as the move of an “millipede”.

Second, Salva Kiir needs to quit or use 10% of his trust on UN Security forces which were deployed in Sudan in order to accelerate the move of the CPA. Those United Nation Security forces will not help Salva Kiir at all. Otherwise, if he placed his trust on the United Nation security forces, then he will get the bitterness of it. This time Salva Kiir Miyardit needs to know that there is no warning letter to be sent to Uganda President Yoweri Museveni in order not to capture Omar Beshir. It is Omar Beshir’s turn to sent the letter to the Uganda President in order to capture Salva Kiir.

Salva Kiir Miyardit have played many supports during the Election time on Omar Beshir which never appeared as true to eyes of Salva Kiir himself and to the rests of the Southern Sudanese Civilians. The sending of the warning letter to Uganda President in order not to capture Omar Beshir and casting the vote to the box of Omar Beshir during an April’s Election, is definitely something unplausible to Salva Kiir Miyardit’s credential in this present day and until he will hand this leadership to somebody else. It is a shame to down-grade oneself to your enemy in such way like that. Omar Beshir, even if I’m a President of Southern Sudan, I can not vote for him or help him in anything. Omar Beshir is worthy to die million times, but because of Salva Kiir Miyardit, Omar Beshir will run his mouth because no one lite the fire under him.

The cold killer Taha show his bad teeth as if he is ok with you but planning how to conspire with terrorist mentality. The same way he was laughing with Late Dr John Garang De Mabior laughing now with Kiir.

Kiir should take care of himself from the north terrorist till referendum is finish.
