Misseriya call for direct talks with Dinka on Abyei
October 13, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Cattle herders of Misseriya tribe called today for direct talks with the Dinka Ngok rejecting the rule of Abyei arbitration tribunal and the intervention of the two political partners of the 2005 peace agreement.
The National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) have failed to reach an agreement in Addis Ababa during talks brokered by the US envoy to Sudan, Scott Gration. They have to resume talks by the end of the month in less than three months before the supposed date of the referendum.
In accordance with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement Abyei population have to decide if they will join southern Sudan or remains part of the north. But the definition of who will participate in the vote deadlocked the whole process, while the Misseriya refuse any compromise affecting their future.
In a press conference held in Khartoum after their return from the Ethiopian capital, the Misseriya tribal leaders said the NCP and SPLM should distance themselves from the oil rich area, adding they can decide on the future of the disputed region if they left alone with their neighbours Dinka Ngok.
“They (NCP & SPLM) have distorted everything. They have caused so many unnecessary problems. The people (of Abyei) were living amicably,” told Reuters Hussein Jalal-Eddin, deputy chairman of the Misseriya Forum.
Hussein further told reporters that Gration understood their point of view. He added that the proposals they received during the talks in Addis Ababa were changed every time without knowing who was behind such decision.
The tribal leaders said they sent a memorandum to the US official calling him to manage direct dialogue between them and the Dinka to sustain mutual respect and promote peaceful coexistence between the two parties.
The main reason for the stalemate between the two peace partners that the Abyei Boundary Commission ruled that the area belongs to the nine chiefdom of Dinka Ngok in Abyei and the arbitration court generally confirmed the decision.
Based on this decision the SPLM says the Dinka can only vote but the Messeriya are not eligible. The Misseriya say they have the same right as the Dinka Ngok and refuse any compromise.
Commenting on this crisis, Salva Kiir told a conference held in Juba today that Abyei should not cause war between the parties.
“We do not want Abyei to become a potential trigger for a conflict again between the south and the north,” Kiir said.

And the good of it the are on boarder between north and south that means they will be the past people to taste the bitterness of war. Otheriwse, they don’t have right or claims in Abyei.

Misseriya are the most poor community,why are they avocading for the very rich community in Khartoum? .The death Misseriya in the last fighting of Abyei are not Know or paid for by Khartoum Government,only defasabi are paid.
Misseriya you are now deeping your foot in fire without thinking twice for tomorrow,for the NCP are far there in Khartoum if war break out again you the Misseriya will be the frist victim,and if the Dinka Ngok refuse for you the grazing Land by force, as now you Miisseriya want to take thing by force who will be the looser.Misseriya think twice for your new generation to come.
