Kiir praised by anti-corruption commission member

October 30, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The President of the Government of South Sudan was praised on Saturday for his commitment to fight corruption in the autonomous region by a senior member of the south’s anti-corruption commission.

Speaking to Sudan Tribune from the southern capital Juba, Deng Deng Yai Hoc, an executive Director of the commission praised President Kiir for setting a good example in the fight against graft.

Sudan is the sixth most corrupt country in the world according to a report last week by Transparency International.

Corruption has blighted the south’s attempts to recover from civil war and years of underdevelopment.

“If there is any person who wants the south to be corruption-free-state, it is President Kiir. He is very much concerned and committed to combating corruption in all institutions and associations operating in south Sudan,” said Deng.

The senior government official described presidential acts and directives as displaying a commitment to ridding corruption in the region.

“If you have been following statements and directives of the president about corruption, you will realize that he is fully committed to getting rid of corruption in order to make South Sudan a corruption free nation. The first step was formation of anti corruption commission and the second being declaration of zero tolerance against corruption. The third and the most important of all were instructions of law enforcement agencies to fully cooperate with anti corruption commission and public in provision of information related to corruption for investigation”, said Deng

He said the increasing decision-making transparency, educating young people and allowing free comment are important activities in the fight against corruption.

The President also declared that government is ready to be criticized and reviewed under any relevant act or law which measures standards of good governance.

By July next year the south may become a new nation after a self determination vote due to take place in January.

Southern Sudan need to follow Kenyan government example over grafts because some government officials do own good houses without sources of their income.

Where do they those income from within this interim of 6 years? government need to match the resources and the sources of the government officials otherwise if found out of graft, government must occupied such assets.

Transparency must to be follow…………………………. for the development of new nation Southern Sudan. We should not praise president because he is not alone in government, but what about the rest, are they doing the same thing?

Reshuffling in not the solution, otherwise once found guilty, government took all the assets and chase to his state or to his home.
