November 25,2010 (BENTIU)- A captain from the southern army (SPLA) ,Kiir Adengo Mading, was killed by a civilian after he registered for the south’s self determination referendum in Unity state’s Parieng county.

After registering at Jaw registration center, Mading from division 9 of the SPLA, was returning the army headquarters in the area when was attacked with a stick, Col. Mabeak Lang Mading Bilkuey told Sudan Tribune on Wednesday.

Mading was discovered by policemen on the side of the road with serious injuries and taken to Parieng county hospital. He died at around 9pm on Tuesday night, the Colonel said.

Lang said that after he ordered police to carry out an investigation in the area had arrested a suspect.

The SPLA colonel said that the man want to retaliate after his relatives were murdered on November 17 in Nyimang from Dhalieny County. Sudan Tribune has seen no evidence that Captain Mading was involved.

Lang says that the SPLA do not believe the attack was carried out by just one man and hope more investigations will reveal if anyone else was involved.

Unity state should wake up and learn that civilization is on their doorsteps.
Those years of barbarism are gone and thus they must embrace peace and civilization.
There is no point in killing your own brother who can defend you in time of need.

    Wake up Unity state!
