Road accident kills one and seriously injures another in Jonglei state

November 13, 2010 (Bor) – At least one has died in a car hit a motor cycle in Bor the capital of Jonglei state on November 12, leaving another man with serious injuries Sudan Tribune has learnt.
His car collided a motorbike driving in the opposite direction killing a 20 year old boy at the scene and maiming the legs and right hand of the 19 year old driver.
Traffic police officer, John Garang Adhuong, who attended the scene of accident told Sudan tribune that Akol knocked the bike over after cutting across to the “wrong side” of the road. He added that Akol will be held in the state prison until he is released by a court order.
An investigation by police has found that the vehicle was road worthy and that Akol, who received his driving license in April 2008, failed to apply the brakes in time.
Doctors at the state hospital who attended the injured boy, John Akech, declined to predict his chances of survival or his ability. He has suffered broken thigh bones on both legs and his left arm.
A orthopedist, Akol Bol, who is known for his experience was consulted to fix the broken bones by the state ministry of health.
After gaining consciousness at state civil hospital, John Akech said the last thing he could remember was the car coming towards him.
A similar accident occurred in 2008 when Col. Zachariah Aguto Ngong ordered his driver to give him a chance to drive and the vehicle ran off the road before it overturned killing five people and injuring two others seriously in Baidit payam of Bor county.
According to southern Sudanese authorities 8-10 accidents are recorded daily in the southern capital Juba. Pedestrians are injured regularly by accidents on southern Sudan’s roads.
In November the Government of Southern Sudan staged a week-long road safety campaign to try and raise awareness about the issue.

stop drinking and driving,how come the driver drove on the wrong side? am still doubt if the driver is licensed,Dinka BOR have a poor record of driving since the old sudan.
