December 23, 2010 (BENTIU) – Unity State’s governor Taban Deng Gai and his counterpart across the in South Kordofan, Ahmed Haroun have called for the release of 27 buses carrying displaced southern Sudanese, detained 23 kilometer north of Hegilig oil field in Unity State.
The displaced people from Khartoum were intending to travel to Bentiu and Wau in South Sudan ahead for the region’s independence referendum in January.
Officials in south Sudan have accused the Misseriya for being responsible for detaining the convoy since December 16. Relations between the Misseriya and the southern states that border the north, where the group spend some of the year looking for pasture for their cattle, remain strained despite the end of north-south conflict with the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
During the north-south civil war many of the Misseriya fought in the Popular Defense Forces a military group aligned to the northern army the Sudan Armed Forces, which fought against the former rebels the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) that has governed the south for the last six years.
Gideon Gatpan Thaor the official spoke person of Unity State government said that between 2001 and this year the Misseriya have killed 31 people in the Abeimhnom County, seriously injured 13 people and stolen 140 cows, 57 goats as well as looting two cars.
Thaor added that Unity state authorities compensated the Misseriya with 134 cows for the five people the SPLA killed in the incidents. He said this was intended to restore a peaceful border crossing.
The spokesman went on to say that three weeks ago six SPLA soldiers were killed and seven seriously wounded by Misseriya on the Mayom- Rubkotna road.
In August the Unity state government issued a decree last allowing the Misseriya to enter that state to find pasture for their animals but this had now been rescinded as of December 19 in response to the detentions and recent attacks.
Thaor, who is also the states minister for information said, the closure of this route would help improve the security threat to returnees the entire state. He said there were suspicions in the south that the “Misseriya are being influenced by the Khartoum government to disrupt the referendum process”.
The minister called on Sudan’s president Omar Hassan Al-Bashir to find a solution to the instability the Misseriya were bringing to the south.
Sudan Tribune contacted local Misseriya chief Rahma Abdul Rahman but he refused to comment on the issue of the detained returnees on the Unity and South Kordofan border.

It is not acceptable at all that Misseriya keep attacking South Sudanese civilians on their way back from the North.Misseriya tribe has been given the free right of passage to graze their cattle in the South.They should appreciate that and adapt a peaceful relation with their Southern counterparts.
They (Misseriya) will be the one to lose heavily if the relationship between the border states in the South and North beome antagonistics.Where can they find water and grazing land if the South ban them from migrating Southward during the dry season?Is Misseriya crazy?How can a community shoot its own foot?

What a poor reasoning capacity. Detaining more than 20 buses destined for South Sudan with civilians in them insteand of forging perfect peacful relationship between South at this critical stage. God have mercy on such heartless people called “Arabs of Sudan”.

Thanks you so much for mentioning and triggering the number of the people who have passed away in BIEMNOM County of DINKA RUWENG COMMUNITY of Unity State. First of all, it is true that Biemnom(Abiemnom), a county of Dinka Ruweng Community, had been in a “Boiling point of 360 degree” since the coming of Arabs to Sudan until this time. Ruweng territory of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom had never been recognized as the one of the most affect territory in Southern Sudan. You indeed mentioned the number of the people of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom(Abiemnom) who were been killed by Arabs since 2001 until this current time.
In fact, the death of the people of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in hand of Messirya wasn’t began in the year 2001. The starting of the war between Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State started in 1969 in Ngol De Ruweng which was recently been given by Deng Alor Kuol to Arabs during the Ruling of Abyei by the Hague Court. In the war of Ngol De Ruweng of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom, there are so many Dinka Ruweng Community leaders who passed away during that time including the First Former Paramount Chief of Dinka Ruweng Mr Kuot Aujack, Mr Chol Aujack of Ruweng and Assistant Chief Mr Mayany Ador who was captured and sent to Kadugli to be arrested until he passed away there in Kadugli. The war in Ngol de Ruweng left about 8000 people of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom dead. So, those number of the people whom I have mentioned are not even remembered as they heroes of the Southern Sudanese.
Also, in 1975, the Third Former Paramount Chief of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom Mr Kur Kuot Kur passed away after he came back from the war of Heglig(Toor Aliiny)between Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom and Messirya. Then on April 16,1983, Kuot Kur Kuot, the son of the Late Mr Kur Kuot, was killed at Biemnom County by Messirya because of Oil in Heglig(Toor Aliiny) of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom. Kuot Kur Kuot was killed by Arabs because he refused to accept “Sharia Law” to be practiced in the territory of Ruweng Biemnom. That is why Kuot Kur Kuot was subjected to death by Arabs. In Ruweng territory, the first places which Messirya have been attacked first were: ‘Waraghor Swamp” followed by Agara, Ajangnga, Rum`angon, Awila, Kolchoor, Wunpech, Goli and Biemnom(Abiemnom) as well as many others places in Ruweng. All these villages were the most target places in Ruweng which Messirya have attacked first before the fully declare deterioration of Ruweng territory in 1983. During that time, all Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom run to different places such as Twic of Bhar-el-ghazel, Nuer, Panaruu, Jok of Abyei, while some run to Khartoum.
On 02/10/2008, Dinka Ruweng Paramount Chief leaders namely: MIAKER CHOM ACHAK, MAYUAK MIATHIANG and others people including six SPLA soldiers were all killed by Messirya after they went to Helgig(Toor Aliiny) of Biemnom with the UN delegates to demarcate the border between the Arabs and the Dinka Ruweng of Biemnom, Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei and Dinka Panaruu of Panrieng, but the Southern Sudan Government didn’t take any initiative in this incident.
So, as of today, Ruweng territory of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State is still under threat by the Arabs as well as others neigbouring communities such as Dinka Panaruu and Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei are also the secondary threat to Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County. On July 22,2009, Deng Alor Kuol, annexed the land of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County, Heglig(Toor Aliiny) to Abyei just because of Oil, but at last Deng Alor Kuol admitted that Heglig(Toor Aliiny) is not belong to Abyei after it was already given to the North. Luka Biong and Edward Lino Wuor said the same thing that Heglig(Toor Aliiny) is not belong to Abyei. This is a shame to the leaders of Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei.
Finally, when Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei fail in their attempt, Dinka Panaruu Community of Panrieng County in Unity State attached themselves and said that Heglig(Toor Aliiny) belong to Panaruu. At the same time, Dinka Panaruu changed the their name Panaruu and call themselves “RUWENG” which they were not even entitled since. We Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom in Unity State, we don’t know what is the big deal really in the name of “RUWENG”? Because of the Oil in the territory of Ruweng of Biemnom County in Unity State, is that the reason why Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei wanted to annexed Heglig(Toor Aliiny) to be the territory of Dinka Jok of Abyei? Or, was it the reason why Dinka Panaruu Community of Panrieng County changed their name “PANARUU” to be called “RUWENG” because of Oil in the land of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State? It is really a big shame to our two neigbours Communities such as Dinka Jok of Abyei and Dinka Panaruu of Panrieng except only Nuer. Now, Dinka Panaruu change Panrieng County and name it as “Ruweng County”. When did Dinka Panaruu of Panrieng become Ruweng? Was it signed during the CPA by the Late Dr. John Garang or what? The only person that I really blame was Almighty God because why he put this damn Oil in Ruweng land of Biemnom and he didn’t put it in Panaruu land or Abyei as well? Dinka Panaruu of Panrieng are now lossing their Identity Panaruu just because of Oil in Ruweng of Biemnom. This is a shame.

If Southern Sudan Government know that 27 buses were detained by Arabs, then what is the function of the SPLA? That is why I said that SPLA is the “Party of Homeless leaders”. If 27 buses full of Dollars were detained by the Arabs, then I think Salva Kiir Miyardit and Mr Pagan Amum could have went to TV in order to pressurize the Khartoum Government. But, because that they are people, no one care about. I know that most of the people on those 27 buses are from Dinka Ruweng of Biemnom.
Since they don’t have a higher commander and no one who have ever rebelled in the SPLA, that is why thing are getting low and low. Assume that the people on the 27 buses are from the family of Salva Kiir Miyardit, do anyone think that Salva Kiir can wait? A real government authority have to stand with its citizens. I’m really sorry to join the SPLA. If I knew it that SPLA would be like this, then I could already join those who rebels from the Movement.

What happen to the returnees is absolutely very bad and there is no any doubt that the NCP hand is behind this nasty development.But when will messeriya figure out that, they are been used to pave ways for NCP dirty politic? and when will they begine to seek or work for their interest in the south?.Now southern independence has become clear to every one even president Omar Al Bashir admitted in several occassions and especially last sunday, he made everything clear including the future of the political structures and system of the remaining part of sudan.I advice the messeriya to read between the lines well rather than to continue in this futureless politic.
