Sudan’s president calls on Darfur citizens to do away with tribalism

NEYALA, May 19, 2004 (SUNA) — President of the Republic Gen. Omer Al-Bashir has reiterated the government’s concern with maintaining security and stability in Darfur. President Al-Bashir was addressing Wednesday a mass rally in Neyala, capital of South Darfur State.

He said that a minority of Darfur citizens have held arms and plotted against their own people before the government. President Al-Bashir said that people of Darfur are capable to halt the war and restore the social fabric in their states.

He said that the conditions in Darfur shall be normalized toward avoiding the plots of enemies. He said that the government, the Armed Forces, the Police forces and the justice and executive organs are ready to help Darfur come out of its current crisis.

He said that the government wants the displaced people and refugees to return to their villages and home areas before the rainy season. He affirmed the government serious endeavor to provide security, stability and agricultural inputs in Darfur.

He said that the enemies of Darfur plan to halt the development in Darfur. President Al-Bashir said that the government is keenn to provide clean drinking water and veterinary, educational and health services in Darfur states.

He called on Darfur people to work for halting the tribal conflicts in their states. President Al-Bashir said at the mass rally that peace is coming in Sudan, adding the First Vice – President, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, who spent nine months of peace negotiations in Naivasha, will not return home before the achievement of peace.

Meanwhile, the mass rally was addressed by the Wali (governor) of South Darfur State, Gen. Adam Hamid Musa, who announced formation of a committee in the state for security, peace and development, which represents all the civil society’s organizations, He also shed light on the accomplishments in his state.

The mass rally was also addressed by Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of South Darfur State, Idam Abdul-Rahman Adam, who stressed the importance of keeping the rule of law in Darfur. He called on Darfur rebels to put down arms and return to the homeland.

The Secretary of the National Congress in the state, Ahmed Gurashi, also addressed the mass rally affirming the state citizens’ adherence to the principles of the National Salvation Revolution.

The mass rally was also addressed by the Commissioner of Neyala Locality, Adam Gama’a, who called on the citizens of Darfur, who hold arms, to put down arms and sit for negotiations toward achievement of a peaceful solution.
