China strengthens relationship with South Sudan: new hospital in Benitu

By Bonifacio Taban Kuich

April 10, 2011 (BENTIU) – A hospital has been built in Bentiu town by Chinese investors. It was opened on 5 April. China is strengthening its ties with the Government of South Sudan (GoSS) ahead of the declaration of South Sudan’s independence on 9 July 2011. China is one of the foreign countries in oil drilling in Sudan.

The hospital with total investment of US$760,000 was opened with support from GoSS in Bentiu town.

Bentiu China hospital combines traditional Chinese and western medicines, Zhang Xinmin, hospital manager told Sudan Tribune yesterday.

Xinmin added that hospital is well equipped with advanced technologies and would provide specialised services, including, surgical, orthopaedics, gynaecology and obstetrics.

The hospital is equipped with advanced equipment including X-ray apparatus, type-B ultrasonic imager, Holter, electrocardiogram monitor, anesthesia apparatus, automatic testing apparatus, shadow less lamp, high frequency electrotome treatment machine.

It has 30 sickbeds and eight senior wards, each ward of department is equipped with air conditioners and electric fans. It is staffed by 15 physicians, technician and nurses.

For years, the Chinese have been profiting from oil pumped from Unity state, but almost no development has been seen by the people living there. During the war, the Chinese were accused of turning a blind eye to massive displacement of civilians living near its oil fields here. Most of the displacement came at the hands of Khartoum-aligned militias, who were ordered to clear the way for oil operations. The oil money from this area went to the pockets of the Chinese and the Khartoum government, but not to people here.

Even after the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the Chinese maintained its wary relationship with South Sudan, keeping all their staff in Khartoum. When it became clear that the referendum was going to happen, and that South Sudan was going to vote for independence, the Chinese started to reach out to the SPLM leaders.

Despite the fraught history between the two parties, both GoSS and the Chinese have pledged to work together to keep pumping oil in a future Republic of South Sudan. This new hospital seems to be a sign of those improving relations. People here hope that it is also a sign that they will finally start to benefit from the immense wealth lying under their land.

You mean the money went to the pockets of the SPLM. How much money have they spent on hospitals, schools and infrastructure.

The perpetual shimally bigot or die hard southern anti-SPLM lost soul.

The SPLM has its fare share of corrupt officials, some SPLM officials lack diplomatic maturity and yes to a certain extent they have failed many Sudanese, particularly southern Sudanese BUT despite all their faults they are a bunch of angels compared to your beloved NCP.

The NCP got billions of dollars since 1999, what have they done with that money? when you answer that question then you may have the moral platform to ask about the SPLM’s spending of its share of the oil revenue, much of which went to cover the ridiculously expensive federal system of governance.

The NCP are a bunch of gangsters with their indoctrination of simple minds like Sam.Eto, using Islam as a tool to fool the masses, shouting Allah Akbar all day everyday and insisting on their so called Sharia Laws but quick to demand the customs revenue generated from the flow of alcohol through southern borders, hypocrites.

Its a an overdue move by China, but its better late than never.

    Logic,

The illogical jalabbi in southerners shoes!

    The illogical JALABBI in disguise!

The NCP has done alot of mistakes. But there are so many good things, though they are still below our expectations and ambitions. According to the World Bank the economy has grown 10 times, the per capita has GDP gone from $ 200 to almost $ 2500 per annum.

Yes there is corruption but not of the kind where the minstry of finance says that there are $ 2 BILLIONS not accounted for or the cheif of staff of the army to loot the salaries of his soldiers without even been asked.Still we will fight corruption and nobody in the NCP will be looked at as an angle.Simply he is not and will not be an angle.

Southerners who went to the south are coming back , running away from your angles and their paradise!

Fifht your own war with your own tools and in your own name. That will be logical and that is your right!Be a man and not an angle!

They might in the north for one reason or the other, but sooner than later they will returne back home.

If they really like north, they wouldn’t have voted 98% seperation in the referendum.

    Stop lieying..!

    Think positiue.

    Achieve,

I have nothing southerners who live in the north. They are most welcome.

That they voted 98% is their right and it is accepted and respected and it does not mean that they should not come to the north or their choice should be held against them. Neither it should mean that they donnot like the north. That is their chice and they are free people.

But you missed my point! What I mean to say is that the SPLA did not delivered what was expected from it.They faild their people miserably!Secession is not the end of the story it is just the begining. My point is towards the SPLA and not towards the poor marginalized people!

Only to the article,Gatloth Gai in Bentiu.

Whose hospital do we think built in new Bentiu?

This hospital is belong to one of the GOSS richest man to earn money here in Bentiu. where many people believed that is heart of income.

Of course Bentiu could be decribes as such when it huge income managed in expected manner. However, income from here is only benefited a specific people including President Kiir,Taban Deng and thier agents.Instead of providing services to the rightful owners in Bentiu, they robbed off on thier hands and use it for contruction a commercial assets like that so-call Chanese hospital which is blindfoling to the community. That is not Chanese hospital.
Why don`t you see a numbrious restuarant and hotels opened here named be Ethiopians belonging.A thieves are alwas a liars.

When we talk of hospital openned by Chanese, whom do we think to be treated there with the exception of rich ministers?

What kind of development made in that way by Chanese if not just cheating? This hospital is not Chanese belonging, but manifessed through Chanese. It is belong to one of the GOss rich man to earn money from poor and marginalised community arround.

Building hosptil is not a matter, but provided it with the equipment is matter alot.
What is new?Bentiu hospital was contructed 7 year back with all rooms for difference work. And still people complain of no treatement since 2005.Once you visit for treatement on whatever condition, the only thing is to refer you to pharmices and buy a medicine there.Beuase nothing to give you in the hospital than that.

Others major challenges are:payment of doctors is not on time with a lot of cheating which common act in every ministry in Bentiu. That is why a new appointed minister and his/her agents just one month then contruction is out.
Cheating has rooted in the heart of this people from Bentiu.

Well, sound as an added advantages for the people of Bentiu and South Sudan in general but before the state of Unity start to used the Hospital, the government must bring the international expert in AC to find out whether it’s good for human used.Otherwise i don’t trust the Chinese they will put chemical through the used of AC to kills our people indirectly.Who does not know that Chinese are the enemy of South Sudan?they have been arming Sudan government to killed us because of our oil they are yearning for.China is the country with over populated resulted the majority of the people are jobless.Since they got job in Sudan, through the government in Khartoum it will be easy for the Khartoum government to used them as machinery to kill our citizen.let us be carefully with an open eyes to over come any attempt being played by our enemy.
