NCP dares SPLM to prove claims of vote rigging in South Kordofan

April 4, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – Rhetoric flared up on Wednesday between north and South Sudan as the latter accused the former of attempting to rig elections in the country’s central state of South Kordofan.

Polls in gubernatorial and legislative elections of South Kordofan State closed on Wednesday after two days of voting.

No incidents of violence were reported during the hotly-contested vote, which was postponed from April 2010 as Sudan held nationwide elections due to disagreements over census results and delimitation of geographical constituencies.

The results of the elections are due to be announced on 10 May amid a climate of suspense due to the sensitivity of the vote and its future implications for the relations between north and south Sudan, which is due to secede in July.

The National elections Commission (NEC), which oversees the exercise, said that 80 percent of the eligible voters had cast their ballots on the first day.

Vote-counting was supposed to proceed immediately after the polls closed, but the north Sudan sector of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), which controls South Sudan, on Wednesday said it objects to the beginning of counting.

The SPLM said in a press release that the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) in north Sudan had a three-phase plan to rig the elections.

It claimed that its members had found three rigged ballot boxes in the areas of Kadugli, Buram and Al-Quzair.

On Tuesday, the SPLM claimed that three ballot boxes were seized in the area of Um-Battah in the state’s capital Kadugli. It also said that one polling station was relocated from the police club to Al-Merikh in Al-Bananusa in the geographical constituency number 7 without prior notice.

Meanwhile, the NCP’s incumbent candidate in gubernatorial elections, Ahmed Haroun, responded with a press conference in which he challenged the SPLM to substantiate its claims against his party.

Haroun, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of war crimes allegedly committed in the country’s western region of Darfur, said that the SPLM should refrain from “badly-directed theatrical plays.”

The two frontrunners in the state’s gubernatorial elections are Ahmad Haroun and the SPLM’s Abdul Aziz Al-Hilu. The latter recently announced his intention to form an all inclusive government should he win the vote.

Ahmad Haroun followed suit yesterday, announcing that he would form a national government which includes all political forces if he won the vote.

The run-up to South Kordofan elections was mired in tension after the paramilitary Popular Defense Forces (PDF) attacked El-Feid village in mid-April, leaving 17 people dead and hundreds of houses destroyed.

The SPLM accused Ahmad Haroun of instigating the PDF attack with the intent of scuttling the elections. The SPLM also accused the NCP of violating the elections law by using state-resources to support the campaign of its candidate

Sudan’s April 2010 general elections, which re-elected the NCP in the north and the SPLM in the south, was marred by opposition boycotts and reports of mass fraud.

Ahmed Haroun shouldn’t be panicking with prove on vote rigging,he should understand that, Nuba sons are more united this time then before.Declare your governorship and you will see fire, one beaten twice shy. There is no way, SPLM is winning the position of governorship and legislative assembly seats. This time a round Nuba need to rule themselves not criminal like you.
Nuba must celebrate their victory as soon as possible under leadership of Al-hilu.

Power played the role within the NCP party, otherwise someone like Ahmed Harun could have not be still walking loose until this time.he’s a murderer who had murdered thousands of Darfur civilians.the outcry of those you had victimized are waiting for you,ICC should be arresting you soon, however loosing the governorship seat is better than loosing your own life.

Yes , they are united behind Telephone Koko, who is been put in prison after saying that the SPLA had petrayed the Nubians.

Anyway South Kordufan is part of the north and those complaining of sniffing in the south business should tell the SPLA to go southward,.This is no longer their country!

    Zol Aweer!
Nuba people had really suffered alot not just in this current administration in Khartoum, but as far as we all know about the big migration of the Arabs tribal to the land of Cush present”Sudan”Nuba were the first people to faced the difficulties during that erra, they were converted to Islamic religion by force regardless of their own choice or decision made by them and without their right, however that hadn’t help them either!finally SPLA Guerillas fighters took hand in hand with the Nubians fellows and fought successfully until that remain in a period of time to be announce shortly on July 9th as Republic Of South Sudan.Nubian have choose a wise decision during the war as their own final way to freedom, and be equalized with the rest of the Sudanese.now who should dictate the right of the Nubians people?what had the NCP have done to the Nubians people interm of development in that area? you’re welcome to governing yourself rather than to serve those monsters in Khartoum.

I believe that you’re one of the Southern tribe or either an Arab who is using Southerner name, you’re betraying the right of the Nuba people to the Northerners, how do you know that Mr.Adam Al Hilu is a traitor?stop commenting your negative nonsense.Southern Kordofan will never suffer if the SPLA are going to governing the state.South has a system that’s going to be better than the North in months to come.you’re being so sad because you haven’t got some kind of position you were looking for within the south, shame on you.

Again Sudan Tribune lets ignorant nobodies reply on this site – some 101 (i.e Basic) facts about Southern Kordofan.

1- It is not all made up of Nuba peoples – there are many other tribes.
2- Not all Nuba people are Christian (neither are southerners)
3- No they were not forced into islam you stupid Imbecile !
4- Not all Nuba people like the SPLM – because it is TRUE they were betrayed by the SPLM.
5- No the SPLM does not have a better or free system in the South. Is that why so many generals are rebelling against it and the political parties are angry the way the SPLM is holding onto power.

For the millionth time the land of cush is in the north you illiterate fool. Here read this article on wiki (if you can read) from A-z to tell you about Sudan. Notice how for almost 70,000 years no one hears or mention South sudan. Its only after the british came and left that people knew primitive peoples existed in the south and even then didnt want anything to do with them.
