Rumbek students strike demanding to sit East African rather than Sudanese exams
By Manyang Mayom
June 17, 2011 (RUMBEK) – Fourth year students attending Rumbek Senior Secondary School boycotted their classes on Thursday claiming it was not clear whether they should study for the Sudanese Certificate examination in 2011.
With South Sudan due to become independent in July, the students who had been due to take their Sudan Certificate exams this year, were querying whether they should instead adopt the East African syllabus.
After the student boycott the Lakes state director general in the ministry of education Kongar Deng Kongar appeared at the school parade and encouraged students to return back into their classes. Deng assured crowd of students that he will follow up the case with the education ministry in Juba.
Deng said: “So your problem is already sent [to Juba] and we are waiting for the answer. Please go to your classes and resume your lectures, and be attentive, build your peace because you will not have education without peace. Go to your classes and I will follow the case.”
South Sudan will become the world’s 193rd country – according to UN membership – on July 9. As well as education there are many issues pending for the soon-to-be independent country.
As well as implementation of the rest of the peace deal with the North, South Sudan must decide on a new currency, whether or not to build a new capital city to replace Juba among other matters.

Haha!
Rumbek students are asking for what they don’t know.
They did senior 1 to 3 based on Sudan syllabus only to sit for the final exams on a foreign and totally different syllabus.
This is unwise, I wish them a nightmare!!!

Qn:
Why do a person wants to be educated?
Ans:
To be a responsible citizen of his or her own country by deserving a respects from others and respectful too and knows his/her position to serve people. Knows the background and benefit of the nature of the community living around.
Being educated also is a knowledge of what is good and bad.
To some people, education is wealth.
I went to school not to abuse my people BUT to unite them in any way as a target for building strong and peaceful Nation.
In most part of Sudan with its distinguished tribes were culturally bounds and recently some were naked except arabs who came as a superior race were having clothes by then. Great civilization developed early 17century (17c) from Lower Nubia which is today Sudan (Cush Land) and Ethiopia (Abyssina) and later pasted to Upper Nubia present day Egypt. The natives of those places by then were black African with common life style. We believed to have transformed today based from our ancestors’ way of their lives.
Naked Dinka, you’re bad mannered and for most you are not educated wasting your time on undevelopmental issues. Anyway, you will learn.
To Rumbek students, dont be the subject to others in South Sudan coz I heard several strikes mostly in your lake state. Before you begin to join school, dont show off that you know better rather than the policies on the ground. East African syllabus are for East African, if you want that go East Africa and join there. We have our syllabus of South Sudan. Student is student you have right to education and you don’t have right to refuse and undermine what you have. Thank.

Dear colleagues of Sudan Tribune,
First and foremost, Greetings to all of you. Let those who hate others continue to hate them, the result is: themselves “RUINED”.
To the issue of the strike by Rumbek students, they are right to demand for E.A Exams, but then they must be patient.
To sit for East African Exams, they must prepare for it as one of the colleagues mentioned it. So, please! wait.
