US based organisation seeks birth registration for South Sudan’s children

By Philip Thon Aleu June 20, 2011 (BOR) – Child Protection International (CPI), a US based child rights advocacy organisation, has written to the South Sudan President, Salva Kiir, asking for approval for birth registration in the region after independence, which is scheduled for 9 July. The organisation says the drafted birth registration kit will also assist government in planning for other child related services such as school and health centres. Children in South Sudan, a region that has suffered civil war for decades, are exposed to various hardships including abduction; forced labour; and limited access to health and education services. CPI was formed in 2007 in response to the abduction of two girls in South Sudan. They want all children in South Sudan registered for the easy identification of lost child. “Mr. President, children in remote areas of south Sudan are not registered, nor are there any form of accurate identification if one loses a child,” the letter, signed by CPI director, Kit Martin reads. The letter urges the government to consider birth registration as well as it will “assist with the government planning with regard to schools, healthcare, transport and other needs.” (ST) CPI’s birth registration kit – used to register the children of South Sudan

This is precisely a right call at a right time, and the government should approved it.

So Kiir’s leadership did not understand the importance of birth registration since 2005 until told to approve it. Interesting!

We do not need birth certificates approvals in South Sudan, 190 years old without birth certificates, So we do not needed forever. We need every individuals to have free healthcare for 190 years in South without any precondition. Birth certificate is for western world where their kids become 18 years then they will chase them away from home.

If you analyse this carefully you don’t need to look far into it, to realise it is nothing more than a solicit for Government funds and a very poor one at that. First if you try and Google the so called child rights advocacy organisation, ‘Child Protection International ‘you do not even get one hit. If it is a well established advocacy group with a proven track record you would at LEAST expect a website of the said organisation or some mention of previous projects they would have undertaken. Secondly the birth registration kit they mention is no more than a quickly put together one page document. With a very questionable requirement for fingerprinting of all new borns, how can that be deemend a necessity for a birth certificate, ask yourself would you be comfortable with your children being finger printed. Finally they go on to widen there scope by this statement that they can ‘assist with the government planning with regard to schools, healthcare, transport and other needs.’

It is organisations like this who then manage to run daylight robbery by coming under the auspices of a western NGO, we immediately then think because they are from the US, europe or wherever else that they know best. We need to wise up or we are going to continue to be abused and used.

Thanks to CPI, we need you especially in Jonglei to help with issues related to Children and abduction. Thanks to the USA.

@Tong Atak, the typical Bhar el Ghazal

You and your likes that you are protecting, always talk about progress and development. It will never happen under your rule given this way of logic of yours. The entire Dinka is being blame for a mismanagement by few people, not even a whole region.

Why wouldn’t you be comfortable with kids being finger printed? Good people don’t worry about finger prints, thieves and criminals[corruptors] do worry because of the fear of being caught one day.

If birth and mortality rate are monitored, then the government can talk sensible talk on the international stage when begging for money as we do all the time.

Your response came from a literate but stupid person close to the government if not already in the government and therefore I will not waste my time talking to an empty vessel here.
