Sudan’s President, UN chief listed as key speakers at S. Sudan independence

July 4, 2011 (JUBA) – Sudan’s president, Omer Hassan Al-Bashir and the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon have been earmarked as key speakers at South Sudan’s independence on Saturday, a programme released on Monday reveals.

On the eve of the event, according to Barnaba Benjamin Marial, the information and broadcasting minister, prayers, concerts and sports events will be conducted in the build up to the July 9 independence celebrations.

“On the eve of independence, citizens across southern Sudan will be encouraged to go to churches or gather in public squares to light candles and say prayers, to herald the birth of the new nation. Dancing and festivities will take place in villages across the country,” Marial told journalists.

The government announcement comes less than week after the Catholic Church initiated nine days of prayer based on the theme; “tolerance and harmonious inter-ethnic and inter-religious relationships”.

According to the information minister, bells and drums will be sounded at midnight on July 8 the eve of the Independence Day, to mark the historical transition from Southern Sudan to the ‘Republic of South Sudan’ (RSS).

Over 3,500 representative, including kings, chiefs and elders from across the 10 states of the semi-autonomous region, leaders from the business community, civil society, women groups and youth movement are expected at the celebration. Also earmarked for the historic event are foreign dignitaries, which will include some 30 African heads of state, foreign ministers, leaders of regional and multilateral organisations, as well as foreign ministers.

“It will be a historic occasion for all our people who have traveled a long and difficult road to the birth of this nation. We all know we face many challenges ahead – we will face them as united, peaceful and independent and build a stable and prosperous country,” Marial said.

Meanwhile the government says it expects over hundred thousand citizens to bear witness to events at Dr. John Garang mausoleum, via the live broadcast that will be on the state-owned South Sudan Television (SSTV). Millions globally are also expected follow live events from other international media outlets.

TIGHT SECURITY

The southern government has further assured its citizens and all invited dignitaries to rest assured of guaranteed security, saying security measures are being put in place all over southern Sudan to ensure a peaceful and orderly environment.

James Wani Igga, the speaker of South Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA) has been earmarked to proclaim the independence of the new nation, thus becoming Africa’s 54th and the world’s 193rd country (according to UN membership).

President Kirr, also one of the key speakers at the event is expected to sign the new transitional constitution, once Sudan’s flag is lowered and that of the new Republic of South Sudan is raised. The president will then take the oath of office as the first President of the Republic of South Sudan.

Also expected to grace the event will be a 21-gun salute, a parade of 1,500 people, comprising officers from the military, including the army, police, prison service, wildlife service and fire brigade.

After the independence corruption will increase in it’s intensity. Tribes will be against tribes, dinka bor will be against dinka gogriel, nuer people will reunite with equatorians and they will put an end to that corrupt government.

And even recently Adam and Eve style was just around in the street of all most parts of Equatoria, what do you want to say people I mean you those having negative attitudes toward Dinka tribe. I know Sudan Tribune website will delete my message but is the fact, why do Nuer community like provoking us like that. I am really serious with these bad mannered tribes.

    George Bol,

What Naked dinka has said is true. If kirr does not apprehend corrupt dinkas in person of:
    Achil tito,
    Ger chan,
the former two minsters of finance who are all dinkas, those dinkas who killed Equatoria police officer in Yambio, that dinka who killed a family members in Yei and that dinka who killed a medical doctor in Yei,

for sure you dinkas should not think that people have forgotten all those atrocities. All other tribes are planning to talk to kirr to behave like president of south Sudan and not of dinka.

If kirr listens well and good but if kirr keeps to cover his corrupt dinkas with out taking them to court and only appointing most of the executive branch from his dinka tribe, he will see.

Plans are under way people who are not dinka are planning to fight dinkas across south Sudan and establish a government that does not specify certain ministries only to one tribe and government that does not cover presidents tribes man.

Dinkas should understand this right and straight. All wars against dinka is under way unless otherwise survivors will tell the story!!!

    @ A.T….. ,

In case you’ve been left out on what is suppose to do, you should seek first for information so that you will meet all the requirement. You’re very far my friend and on top of that you don’t know the expenses paid by President to get back Abyei from the administrative transfer in later date and you jump unknowingly to say that Abyei was sold to Arab in the north. No such a things in the south right now you come instead of seeking asylume in Australia.

The decision to give Omer Hassan Al-Bashir a special speech is important just to allow him air out all his feeling and the future of the new Nation.
    Bravo Southern Leaders.

Oke, The unity of Nuer in south sudan will means the end of looting in the entire region for I know very well that Nuer are professional thieves at the level of the world so if they united then the region will be in peaceful state. Dinkas are not enemies of one another. No Dinka Bor or Dinka Bahr el Ghazel is dreaming of looting or killing one another at all. But Nuer always loot another nuer, morelei, Bor, Lake state, warap state and Dinka ngok of panrieng
so their unity may put off the problem in the region but I doubt because they are casted community that can not live without stealing. To on Dinka will stay united to defeat any ill actions against them. we have been foregiving every culprit and pugitives on Dinkas because of the liberation the country to come this week, but after this we will always remain Monyjang wheather you like it or not Monyjang is going to unit very strongly for our rights and we will not dare to foregive any one again. liberation is over.
    Thanks

When war was almost finishing Dinka youths, other tribes were rejoicing in Khartoum or Uganda and no complains why Dinka youths were overstretched in war with Arabs.
Now every tribe is against Dinka people including those Dinkas who are not even participating in the government but lost too much to the war.
Dinka is a separate entity from GOSS. Attack GOSS on corruption but not Dinka, otherwise some of you are crossing a dangerous line which will not help you.
This is double standard and will not take us anywhere.

    Nhomlawda,

This is not a jok, unless kirr behavior’s like president of the RSS to be but if he continues to back dinka hooligans and corrupt dinkas, you will all pay the price.

The day light dream of dinka that they fought is an old CD cassette, everybody knows who fought the war. It is a well know fact whoever praises himself is nothing but a coward and hiding behind the real fighters.

You think south Sudanese do not know what your dull president kirr has been doing. People endured for the sake of self-referendum vote, something southerns have proclaimed since 1947, 1955, 1991 and final 1983 war.

Now that all is over, next thing is to liberate south Sudan from corrupt dinkas led by kirr. If you are after project of united New Sudan, better join Yasir Arman, Malik Agar and Al Hilu to continue fighting with Khartoum government.

    to reminder you:
Kirr as leader should make sure all corrupt dinkas are tried. people know them all. If kirr keeps quite when dinkas are caught red handed stealing public resources and no action has been taken by kirr’s dinka led government.

Dark days are waiting for dinkas, when war starts in south Sudan people know what tribe will be targeted by all other tribes.

If you think this is a jok, wait and you will see.

Dinkas are after food, in kakuma refugee camps, in camps in Ethiopian camps, After 1991’s split in the spla, almost most of the fighters from Dinkas jointed refugee camps, leaving the equatorian and nuers to fight the arabs. That is why only the equatorian area were safe and defended by brave soldiers them. without the equatorians, the spla would have finished. the equatorian provided food, manpower.Dinkas ran and left their hometown to the arabs, you cowards, so just enjoy your corruption, but soon the end will come to it, your days are numbered.

    Naked Dinka,
you sweetly said, the Dinka were refugees in the camps while leaving Nuer and equatorian to fight the enemy. Can you in short tell me,who were the majority and most dominant tribe within the following SPLA battalions:
    1.Koryom1
    2.Muormuor
    3.Kazuuk
    4.Zalzal
    5.Intifadha/Intifaza
    6.Intisar
    7.Koryom2
    8.Minyjil
    9.Jolwoliec
    10.Red army
    11.Amer4
    12.Mobile force
And remember that each of these battalions consisted or are comprised with numerous infantries or platoons.
When you hear the spla army singing, what is the common language they used.what language is the most spoken one in the SPLA army?Otherwise be quiet instead to just involved your self into a hard situation you could not afford to relieve yourself from.

Let’s just focus on our long waited freedom to be celebrated with joy and not sorrows.unity means prosperity, with unity we can develop our Country but with hatred,we will end up with out development. How do you expect development if you still preaching tribalism and disunity amongst ourselves?

If you use your talents to help yourself, relatives and then your country. What else do you need from the government?
Your contribution toward rebuilding the foundation of our nation is with you, others and myself.Everyone will join hand give a share of knowledge to build our nation peacefully. Please stay on topic.don’t branch away.
