UN chief mourns death of four peacekeepers in Abyei

August 2, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on Tuesday expressed sadness over the death of four Ethiopian peacekeepers in Abyei.

“The secretary general expresses his deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those killed, as well to the government of Ethiopia,” said Ban’s spokesperson.

“He also expresses his concern for the well-being of the seven other peacekeepers who were injured in the explosion.”

Abyei is a contested region that lies on the borders of Sudan and the newly independent state of South Sudan. Both sides agreed to withdraw all their forces from the oil rich district and allow for the deployment of peacekeepers from Ethiopia.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) last June authorized the 4,200 strong force as the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

A landmine detonated in the village of Mabok, around 30 kilometers (20 miles) southeast of the territory’s main town of Abyei killing the four soldiers and badly wounding seven others who were airlifted to South Kordofan state capital of Kadugli.

The village was previously under the control of Sudan Armed Forces (SAF). Sudan is a signatory to the Ottawa treaty banning the use of anti-personnel mines.

Abyei’s status was supposed to be decided in a referendum last January but the vote stalled due to disagreements between Khartoum and Juba on who is eligible to vote. It has yet to be determined how this will be resolved.

That is it and still more are under ground as the SAF leaves the area not at their will but at the will of the international community. They have to justify and afirm their stand on the treaty on the use of anti-personnel land mines.

    Dear readers,

This cruel acts of NCP is unacceptable act to all be-loving as well as those who fear God. The world expresses their deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the late or those killed, as to the government of Ethiopia in general. May God Almighty rest their soul in peace Amen.

The UN now understand deeply that they will expect more anti-personnel Landmines and such you should start now bringing in Engineers so that they rid of all types of Landmines to avoid no more bloodshed for those innocent Peacekeepers.

    Thanks

Donot be mislead by Sudan Tribune they said ” the village was previously undr SAF”.The village is under the SPLA they implanted mines so as not to be attacked by the SAF.

If the mines were implanted by the SAF we would have heard the UNparking like mad-dog.

The United Nation Council members must understand, the SAF did this intentional way because they already knows there will be U.N. PeaceKeepers Forces will be depoly in the region.

The Khartoum troops did just like the way they invaded Abyei when they hear, the United Nation Council members will visited Abyei region and before the Council arrived, they invaded Abyei so that, the members of the United Nation will not come to make assessment for PeaceKeepers Forces. Many people have been consistently calling for United Nation and all International Community to take appropriate action against Khartoum government even if the South Sudan separate, this Khartoum government is very threeaen to civilians and the Internatinally and I am wondering why U.N. Council members and the world ignore the fact.

Today is the land mine, tomorrow will be the militants terrorist-Arabs-Islamic attack in the same place,Ethiopian or UN should be carefully, the only solution is to allow SPLA to wage the power with SAF and one of them must leave the ground like what happen in S.Kordofun right now.

You must be a mad man. How come that the SPLA planned land mines in that place knowing that those living in the area are their own people? This is the work of SAF, they know that those who will be trapped are not Arab. However, this is the proved that Abyei belong to South Sudan, period.
Am very sure even if we go to court in Heaven, (before God) we South Sudanese will win this case.

You might be crazy to deny fact, this is what I hate from you u Arabs of the North Sudan not Sudan you don,t accept the results of your misbehavior and dud acts, how could you say the village was/is under SPLA meanwhile SAF was the one touring to that village and trap all the mines that is not only Mabok but around all the ares North and South East of Abyei SAF did that simly b,se they knew that they may quit an area and Abyei at large it is gud always for SN to know his future failure.
And I want to assure all South Sudan tribune readers that SAF with their negligence Commander have even tormented the human mines in every house where ever they get a bundle of grass they put it there after they looted all the properties took them to mujlet shame on SAF for taking civilian properties and through the main building including Church I may my self attempt if no one assist me to push down you fucken Masgit Mosque in Abyei
That is you last evacuation from Abyei you may not any longer snore in Abyei.

There will be no peace in Sudan although it was divided in to two countries if despot Bashir is still head of state in North Sudan. You need to speed up Bashir’s indictment to stop him from exacerbating the situation in the region. There is nobody behind the slaying of Ethiopian peacekeepers than tyrant Bashir as far as I know. Before the independent of South Sudan I hear many people saying that, if Bashir is arrested now for the crime he has committed against humanity in Darfur and other parts of Sudan then the CPA will not be effective. Why not arrested him now if he is to be charge with genocide in Darfur. Bashir does care about international laws as long as he called himself field marshal.I heard from him in 2008 when he was issued arrest warrant, he stated openly that if the whole world united itself to arrest him it won’t happen.

First my conolence to Ethiopian People in general and the families of those UN Ethiopian Peacekeepers who died heroesly in Abyei

Dear UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon,

you needs to take appropriate actions immediately against the culprits instead of just mourning, the measures must includes: economic/military hardware embargo, dignitaries sanctions and effective military intervention to the brutal Khartuom regime under the ICC hunting criminal Omer Al Beshir who committed genocidal war aganist inhumanity in Darfur,South Sudan and currently to innocent civilians in Khadugli South Khordofan.

Therefore, such devilish and inhuman act was planned by SAF’s combined paramilitary forces of Janyjaweeds and Iranian Revoluntary Islamist who were sent to Sudan recently for Jihad as to fight longside SAF against the SPLA in both South Khordofan/Blue Nile and Abyei.

Thus,Southerners, let us wait those Messirays Arabs militias will regret soon or later for planted landmine that killed four gallant Ethiopian UN Peacekeepers and wounded others in Abyei but I assure you that the professional Ethiopian soldiers known as Addiik will retaliated and compensated their martyrs in matter of zero hours buddies.

The Abyei territory is 200% belongs to South Sudan and particularly to Nine Chiefdoms of Dinka Ngok transfered administeratively to South Khordofan illegally. It is matter of time Abyei will be annex to RoSS whether by bullets or allow Dinka Ngok only to determine their political destiny/fate/ aspiration through their Abyei pending Referundum stipulated under CPA signed in 2005 at Naivasha Kenya without free conditions that lead to involvement of strangers known as Messira Arabs whom claimed to vote hands in hands with indigeneous Dinka Ngok without feeling shame!.

Long Live The RoSS and its Sovereignty
Long Live Indigeneous people of Abyei
Long Live Ethiopian Un Peacekeepers in Abyei and Darfur

My condolence to them may their soul rest in peace, is so sad to hear such news, SAF have planted more than that in both Abyei and South Kordufan region, we should be more careful though we have lost the number of person. many of the SAF soldiers are still within Abyei, they only removed their uniform and they will continue crazy acts in the region, they will creat unhappy situation to both UN peace keepers and Abyei residents(Dinka Ngok). there are big plans from the office of Bashir which is only killing/terorising the southerners and international community after loosing South Sudan.

    We must watch out.

Which “fact” you are talking about.Sudan tribune did not mention any fact here. The simply put a misleading statment saying “the village was previously under the SAF”

This “loose” statement by itself tells you that ST will not hesitate to put it as ” a fact” if they have the slightest evidence or even the slightest doubt that the SAF implanted these mines. So…at least let us notspeak about facts and truth!

Likewise if there any doubt that the SAF had implanted these mines the UN will come out parking about human rights, civillian protection..bla…blaa..

May The God Take Their Soul In Eternal Peace.

Omer Al-Bashir is a professional terrorist in Northeastern Africa – Now SAF are no where go in Abyei. They are authorized by tyrant Omer Hassan Al Bashir to plant more explosive bombs & landmine. That’s his work, killing and praying – they don’t want to leave Abyei and I believe death will reach them soon.
You can not opted to live on someone ‘s land and you expect a peaceful coexistance.

I am very serious, the way I see them killing and torturing southerners is really took me far to think those people are not human to relate with in any way but remain in rivalry positions.

What I want most to our fellow southerns is just a back up just one and they will gonna feel sorry for their mistake soon. Even though by war, I thinks they will not walk away with victory slogan claiming weakness of south Sudan. Time will tell who is who.

Long live Ethiopian peace keeping Army!

Long live people of Southern Sudan!

    Long live Abyei Soil!
