Lam Akol was received in juba on Friday by the President Salva Kiir for the second time since their first meeting in Nairobi last Thursday 29 September. Following the meeting Lam announced his return to Juba after being residing in Khartoum and Nairobi.

Akol who was the sole contender to challenge Salva Kiir for the election South Sudan president before the independence in April 2010, was accused of destabilising political stability and coordinating with rebel groups. The SPLM-DC members were also harassed.

Following Friday’s meeting, the SPLM-DC leader told reporters that President Salva Kiir has directed the different government institutions to not hinder the political activities of his party and to cooperate with it.

He also reiterated his commitment to contribute as opposition party in the building of viable democracy in the nascent country through the different legal tribunes.

Akol also called on the political forces to in the country to support the efforts exerted by Salva Kiir to build the new nation of South Sudan.

The SPLM-DC was established in June 2009 in Khartoum, but the party was unable to exercise its activities properly from Juba after the independence.

Last September three leading figures of the SPLM-DC, Sandra Bona Malwal, Deng Bior Deng and Yien Thiang Luony, resigned from the party and accused Lam Akol of dictatorship and having links with rebel groups.

But, he dismissed these accusations and called to bring it to the court, particularly after rumours saying that former rebel leader Peter Gadet disclosed to the South Sudanese authorities the links of the rebels with SPLM-DC leader.
