Sudan president invites COMESA to play active role in conflict resolution
KAMPALA, June 07, 2004 (SUNA) — President of the Republic, Gen. Omer Al-Bashir, has stressed the importance of intensifying efforts for solution of conflicts at the region of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) as essential means for realizing the gorals and aspirations of the African peoples for economic and social progress as well as utilizing the continent’s resources.
This came in his address at the opening sitting of the Ninth Session of COMESA Summit in Kampala, Uganda, on Monday. President Al-Bashir appreciated the accomplishment of COMESA member states in the fields of security, peace and conflict solution, especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Angola and Sudan.
He expressed Sudan thanks and gratitude to all those who contributed to the peace agreement. He said that Sudan government regards the peace agreement as a historic African accomplishment which will contribute to the stability and development in Sudan and all Africa.
President Al-Bashir affirmed Sudan commitment to continue its efforts for solution of the existing conflict in Darfur through peaceful means. He also commended the efforts of the African Union and Chad for solution of Darfur conflict.
In his address, President Al-Bashir has reviewed the developments at the COMESA region and the world during his chairmanship of the COMESA organization.
He praised the support of the African Union to the organizations in Africa in the field of conflict solution.
He congratulated the African Union for its success to establish its Parliament and Council for Peace and Security.
President Al-Bashir stressed the importance of boosting the national investments and attracting the foreign investors at COMESA member states as well as supporting the cooperation between these countries. MO/MO
