Egyptian PM congratulates Sudanese leadership on peace agreement

KHARTOUM, June 08, 2004 (MENA) — Sudanese President Omar al-Bshir received late Tuesday Egyptian Prime Minister Atif Ubayd who handed him a message from President Husni Mubarak. Ubayd said that Mubarak congratulated the Sudanese leadership on the success of the peace process.

Ubayd said in statements following his meeting with Al-Beshir that the Sudanese president told him that peace in Sudan was peace for Egypt and that Sudan’s security was that of Egypt.

President Al-Beshir expressed appreciation of Mubarak and Egypt’s people and government, Ubayd said, asserting that Egypt wished the Sudanese people good.

On Egypt’s role following a prospective final peace agreement, Ubayd said that cooperation would continue in all domains, adding that the Egyptian People’s Assembly approved the four freedoms agreement: freedom of possession, residence, movement and work for the peoples on both sides.

Ubayd cited some of the joint projects set up between Egypt and Sudan including the Red Sea road, meat imports from Sudan and the construction of a sugar plant there.

The two sides held talks co-chaired by the Sudanese First Vice President and Ubayd with the participation of Sudanese ministers of foreign affairs and agriculture and Egyptian ministers of foreign affairs and foreign trade and Egyptian Ambassador in Khartoum Muhammad Assem Ibrahim.

The Egyptian delegation congratulated the Sudanese president on the signing of a peace agreement in Sudan.
