Presidential political adviser meets UN secretary general envoy

KHARTOUM, June 10, 2004 (SUNA) — Presidential Political Adviser Dr. Gotbi Al-Mahdi discussed with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Eric Vraaslen, Thursday the plan of the UN regarding the humanitarian work in the States of Darfur.

Dr. Al-Mahdi said in a statement to the press following the meeting that he and the UN’s Special Envoy discussed the current developments in the domains of humanitarian affairs, specially in Darfur States.

He referred to the rich experience of Sudan and the UN in the domains of humanitarian affairs and the real obstacles facing them.

Dr. Al-Mahdi said he conveyed to the UN’s Special Envoy the government’s points of view regarding the humanitarian work in Darfur States, adding that he was also acquainted by the Envoy on the obstacles facing the agencies of the UN and the role expected to be played by the government to remove these obstacles.

The meeting also discussed general situations in Darfur and cooperation between the government and the UN regarding the repatriation of the displaced people to their areas as well as providing them with the necessary needs.
