February 28, 2012 (JUBA) – The governor of Lakes state has relieved members their roles on the Lakes state anti-corruption commission and ministries.
Former governor of Lakes state Chol Tong Mayay (ST)Governor Chol Tong Mayay issued decrees yesterday removing the chairperson and deputy chairperson of Lakes state anti-corruption commission.
Mayay’s decree, which came into effect on 27 February, relieves Dominic Madol Alawei (chairperson); Silas Kot Thong (deputy chairperson); and Peter Machar Agook of their positions.
Mayay’s second decree, immediately removes: Enock Manyuon Malok, D/G minister of local government and law reinforcement agency; Isaac Manyuon Madem, D/G of ministry of agriculture and forestry; Philip Deng Ahoc, D/G of ministry for social development; Martin Makur Malual Gurker, D/G of ministry of parliamentary affairs; Madhel Meshack Manyuon, D/G ministry of physical Infrastructure; and Ustaz Kongor Deng Kongor, D/G of ministry of education.
The reason for the firings was not given and no official was available for comment.
Lakes state is no stranger to allegations of corruption. Dut Makoi, a former political adviser in Lakes state accused Mayay of corruption in October 2011. An allegation which Mayay denied and Makoi later denied.
The Lakes state minister of finance, trade and industry, Pur Chiengan Dakbai, was brought before parliament on charges of corruption in January 2012.
