Sudanese vice president directs security services to maintain security in Darfur
NIYALA, June 20, 2004 (SUNA) — First Vice-President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha has said that all the security organs have been directed to maintain security in Darfur in implementation of the decree of the president of the republic declaring mobilization of all organs to consolidate security and stability in Darfur.
Addressing a commemoration ceremony in Niyala town, capital of South Darfur State, of late Shaykh Abd-al-Hamid Dhwalbeit, the first vice-president said the urgent mission in Darfur now is represented in maintaining comprehensive security, providing the basic living requirements, supplying production inputs and exerting serious endeavours for conducting peaceful dialogue.
He announced the government’s initiative to end war in Darfur, saying that all the nation’s potentialities will be mobilized for realizing peace.
Taha said the government would work for convening a dialogue conference and hold contacts with all arm holder groups for dialogue.
The first vice-president paid tributes to late Shaykh Abd-al-Hamid, announcing that an educational institution will be established after his name to be financed by Al-Zubayr Charity Foundation.
Meanwhile, the first vice-president has received a charter of peaceful co-existence in South Darfur State.
The charter was signed by representatives of the civil society organizations, native administration leaders, south Darfur notables, commercial chambers union, associations of workers, intellectuals, farmers, herdsmen, industry, youth, and students and leaders of political parties.
