German parliamentary delegation to visit Sudan July 3

KHARTOUM, June 25, 2004 (SUNA) — A high-ranking German parliamentary delegation is to visit Sudan on July 3 to get acquainted with the reality of the situations in Darfur and the efforts exerted by the government to contain the crisis.

This was announced to SUNA by Presidential Political Adviser Dr. Qutbi Al-Mahdi, who and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Angelo Beda paid recently a visit to Germany.

Dr. Al-Mahdi pointed out that the German State Minister for Foreign Affairs would also visit Sudan in a later time.

He explained that the visit of the German parliamentary delegation comes as a result of joint talks with a number of parliamentarians from the ruling party on the situations in Darfur, where a comprehensive briefing was given on the root causes of the problem and the efforts exerted by the government for its solution, specially the measures adopted to ease the humanitarian situation and the political activities made with the rebels.

Dr. Al-Mahdi said the delegation held an important meeting with the political adviser of the German Chancellor, where a complete understanding was achieved.
