UN chief leaves Sudan for Eritrea
KHARTOUM, July 3 (AFP) — UN Secretary General Kofi Annan left Khartoum for Asmara Saturday, switching his attentions from the humanitarian crisis in Sudan’s Darfur region to the peace process between Eritrea and neighbouring Ethiopia.
Sudanese officials said Annan left in the early morning after his late night talks here with President Omar al-Beshir in which he demanded that Khartoum disarm the state-sponsored Arab militias blamed for fanning the Darfur crisis.
