March 5, 2013 (JUBA) – The website of South Sudan ruling party (SPLM) – SPLMToday.com has temporarily been suspended earlier this week, according to a source at US-based web hosting company, StartLogic.

“This site has been suspended”, read a statement on visiting the party website.

It it not clear why the hosting company; a subsidiary of Endurance International Group, suspended the south-ruling party’s site.

Officials were not immediately available for comment but when access to the website returned the SPLMToday.com Management Team published a statement saying:

SPLMToday.com, the official SPLM website, was offline and inaccessible to readers between 13:00 and 14:00 GMT on Wednesday 05 March due to some routine technical maintenance on its servers.

This particular maintenance required that the site be put offline during the process that normally takes only a few minutes. Ideally, a friendlier message would have been displayed informing the visitors/readers that the site will be up shortly.

Unfortunately, visitors to the site got a worrying message from our hosting provider stating that the site was “temporarily suspended”.

The management team of SPLMToday.com would like to apologize for any inconveniences caused as a result of this inaccessibility (that lasted for less than an hour), particularly as the SPLM Political Bureau was convening at that time.

The management team would also like to attempt to put to rest all other wild speculations of the cause of the ‘temporarily suspension’ – it was nothing more than the above.

Only the website was affected by the maintenance. All other services such as the SPLM email, plus other web services were unaffected.

On Tuesday, senior officials were locked up in the party’s political bureau meeting, seeking to review and adopt drafts of the SPLM basic documents ahead of their forthcoming National Liberation Council (NLC) and extra ordinary conventions.

The convention, Anne Itto, the deputy SPLM secretary general said, aims to review the party’s manifesto, constitution, basic rules and regulations as well as the code of conduct.
