Resistance to new political advisor and commissioner in Lakes state
April 13, 2013 (RUMBEK) – The recent announcement of Lakes state’s new cabinet by the military caretaker Governor Maj-Gen Matur Chul Dhuol on Friday has drawn mixed reactions.
Youth from Lakes state’s eight counties warmly welcomed the appointment of Madong William Mading as minister for Culture, Youth and Sport. Mading served as the Lakes state government’s Director General at the ministry of Information, Culture, Telecoms, Youth and Sport from 2005 till 2010.
After the ministry was divided he continued to serve as the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sport, under Matur Majok Ahjac until he replaced him on Friday.
Mading said his appointment took him by surprise as he had failed to secure the appointment in a reshuffle of the previous governor, Chol Tong Mayay, in April 2012.
Young people in Rumbek celebrated the Mading’s appointment at a secret bar as the Governor Dhuol has banned alcohol from most parts of Lakes state.
Santino Akot Ater, a student in Rumbek said that Mading was the “right person” for the job. However, he criticised the decision to appoint a traditional chief as an adviser describing it as an “insult to educated people who waste all their time doing study to become educated people.”
He added that Mading’s appointment will “empower youth” but questioned whether the military Governor allow a Mading to perform “his duties without interruption.”
WULU COUNTY DISQUIET
A resident in Bahrgel district of Wulu county told Sudan Tribune that the area was shocked to hear that Akol Muorwel has replaced Ezekiel Thiang Mangar.
