Sudanese opposition reiterate commitment to coordinate with rebels
November 18, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese opposition umbrella organization, National Consensus Forces (NCF), has said that no power on earth could prevent it from having contacts with the rebel Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF).
Sudan presidential assistant and deputy chairman of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) Nafie Ali Nafie described this declaration as dangerous and unacceptable.
The Sudanese official described this step as a possible violation of the Political Parties Act adding that the NCP will deal with this development in every possible way but did not elaborate.
The NCF’s chairman, Farouq Abu Issa, said in press statements published in Khartoum that the NCF knows well that the SRF is comprised of Sudanese citizens who were forced to bear arms and leave the country by the mindless, exclusionary, and racist policies of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP).
Abu Issa asserted that no power on earth could stop the NCF from engaging in dialogue with the SRF and accused the NCP of pushing the SRF to bear arms, saying that the NCP and some SRF factions were once partners in governance.
He pointed that the coordination between NCF and SRF aims to save the country from the corrupt policies of the NCP, describing it as humanitarian and moral duty for the sake of the country.
The opposition leader added that the objective of their cooperation with the SRF is to achieve democracy and social justice and establish a new Sudan that doesn’t differentiate between the centre and the peripheries.
Following a series of protests against the government’s austerity measures last September, the SRF proposed a draft of political declaration aiming to reunite the action of the political and armed opposition groups to overthrow the regime and establish a joint government during an interim period.
However the opposition alliance says committed to political and peaceful means to bring down the regime of president Omer Al-Bashir distancing itself from military action.
Abu Issa disclosed that they arrived at a unified program to restore democracy and establish a new state that is based on principles of justice, freedom, and democracy.
He added that their coordination with the SRF protects the unity of the rest of the country following cessation of South Sudan and prevents the NCP from further fragmenting its territory.
Abu Issa downplayed the statements made by Nafie and described it as coming from someone who went astray and lost direction and doesn’t know what he should do.
He said that those statements came from someone whose regime has failed on all levels, calling upon Sudanese people to unite behind the banner of freedom, democracy, and social justice.
