Sudanese army retake SRF rebel area in South Kordofan
November 20, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) on Wednesday retook Kaling area in South Kordofan state from the rebel Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF), a military spokesperson in Khartoum said.
He further said that SRF rebels use the area, which located the Rashad district on the border with North Kordofan, as basis to launch attacks on the neighbouring areas, adding it comes in line with SAF efforts to secure the region.
He pointed that the regular troops confiscated arms and ammunition of the rebels who fled the area leaving behind a number of deaths.
The SRF did not issue a statement on the attack as its spokesperson was not reachable.
Last Sunday 17 November the rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) attacked the town of Abu Zabad in North Kordofan state.
SAF repulsed the assault and killed the second deputy general commander of JEM troops Mohamed Rahouma who belongs to the Misseriya tribe.
The Sudanese defence minister Abdelrahim Hussein announced recently that SAF would launch a major offensive on the rebel positions in the country echoing statements by president Omer Bashir who vowed to eradicate the insurgents by 2014.
The rebel alliance SRF is composed of JEM, two factions the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid Al-Nur and Minni Minnawi and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North.
The coalition vowed to topple Bashir’s regime and to establish a democratic and secular state in Sudan.
