AfDB earmarks $45m for three Sudanese states
May 28, 2014 (KHARTOUM) – The African Development Bank (AfDB) has allocated $45m to avoid desertification, drought and the impact of floods in Sudan’s Gedarif, Kassala and White Nile states.
According to SUNA, a delegation from AfDB’s Horn of Africa project to combat desertification and drought visited Sudan on Monday as part of this initiative.
Abdou Kamara, head of the delegation, said their visit was to access activities and programs being carried out by the states’ government in the fields of combating of desertification and drought.
He added that AfDB was funding such projects in eight African states.
The AfDB delegation also held joint meetings with the technicians from the ministries of animal resources, agriculture, rural planning and water resources to select projects for implementation.
$2BN FUND
Last week, the AfDB and China sealed a $2 billion co-financing fund, seeking to mobilise resources to enhance development within the African continent.
Resources, under the 10-year Africa Growing Together Fund (AGTF) project, will be provided and used alongside the AfDB’s own reserves to finance eligible development initiatives.
The AGTF will be immediately established, and is expected to be used to co-finance some projects before the end of this year, an official said in Kigali, Rwanda last week.
