C. Equatoria governor removes Yei county leaders

September 1, 2014 (JUBA) – Central Equatoria state governor relieved commissioner of Yei River county and mayor of Yei municipality in a decree issued over the weekend.

Governor Clement Wani Konga gave no reason for removing commissioner Juma David Augustine, naming Bedale Cosmos Sumbe as his successor.

Located about 100 miles south-west of Juba, Yei is one of the 11 Central Equatoria state counties. Under the state transitional constitution, the governor has powers to appoint and dismiss commissioners.

Kona also fired Yei municipality mayor Ceclilia Oba replacing her with Santo Paul Lasuba.

The ex-commissioner told supporters in Yei town on Sunday that he would continue to serve his people despite leaving office.

“Therefore thank you SPLM for enhancing our capacity and particularly my capacity for the 28 months as the commissioner and I believe that with this experience I attained in this office will help me to save this party better,” said Augustine.

Augustine was appointed to head Yei River county early 2012.
