W. Bahr el Ghazal governor returns from Cairo visit

September 9, 2014 (WAU) – The governor of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state, Rizik Zackaria Hassan, returned from Cairo on Monday following a 20-day visit to the Egyptian capital.

“We had discussed and agreed with the government of Egypt to strengthen our economic relationship through sharing investment developments which we have right now started implementing,” he said.

“We have agreed with Egyptian minister of education to sponsor some of our students from Western Bahr el Ghazal state to Alexander University in Cairo, a number which is separate from what government of Egypt had already promised South Sudan to sponsor,” added the governor.

Several state officials and trade union members accompanied Hassan for the Cairo trip.

The Egyptian government and Western Bahr el Ghazal state have also agreed to launch direct cargo flights from Cairo to Wau for the export of commercial goods, disclosed Hassan.

He said they also agreed on many issues, including the building of Wau municipal council headquarters by Egypt, establishment of an international hospital in Wau town, as well as supporting the Western Bahr el Ghazal state’s agricultural sector.

“Other projects like electricity power, dairy and fruits product factories will start before the end of this year. We also discussed the issue of mineral resources with the Egyptian government,” revealed the governor.

“An assessment team from Egypt would soon pay a visit to Wau,” he added.
