School teacher dismissed for impregnating pupil
November 10, 2014 (WAU) – Education authorities in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state have dismissed a primary school teacher for allegedly impregnating a primary school pupil.
Ann Daniel Ali, the state director for gender axed the teacher, only identified as Joseph, a move that was largely welcomed by parents
“This is a warning to all teachers that they should distance themselves from getting involved in loving school girls,” said Ali.
He urged parents to reports such cases to authorities in order to minimise practices likely to undermine girl child education in the state.
The girl involved was reportedly studying on a scholarship from the education ministry as her parents could not afford paying her fees.
Many parents said the incident contravened the girl-child education policy.
It is not clear which law prompted the director to dismiss the teacher.
