Guards block former Sudan rebel leader from entering presidency
February 15, 2015 (KHARTOUM) – The former rebel Justice and Liberation Movement Dabajo (JEM-Dabajo) said that presidential guards prevented its leader from entering the Sudanese presidency on Sunday.
JEM-Dabajo political secretary Nahar Osman Nahar told Sudan Tribune that the security officials barred their leader Bakheit Abdallah Dabajo from entering the presidency without providing him any explanation.
“This is a strange behaviour from the security agent who used to see Dabajo coming often to the Republican Palace to discuss issues related to the implementation of the signed peace agreement,” Nahar said.
Sources in the rebel group say Dabajo used to meet with the minister at the Sudanese presidency, Salah Wansi, to finalise the outstanding issues as the group is preparing to take part in the upcoming general election scheduled for April.
Dabajo who is appointed general brigadier in the Sudanese army is also adviser at the Supreme Council of Decentralised Governance which located near the presidency .
The former rebel group successfully integrated important number of its combatants in the regular forces in accordance with the security arrangements signed together with a peace agreement on 6 April 2013.
However, the Sudanese army refused some 750 from 1350 fighters admitted recently in El-Fasher DDR camp. Also, the group says they have more than 3,000 combatants in other Darfur states still to be integrated.
The other point of contention is the number of the commanders to appointed as officers in the Sudanese army and other regular forces. Only 22 commanders are appointed as officers but the rebel say 32 commanders have to be appointed officers in line with the security arrangement .
On Sunday evening the JLM-Dabajo issued a short release calling on the media representatives to attend a press conference they will hold on Monday.
