W. Bahr el Ghazal orders review of NGO mandates

March 30, 2015 (WAU) – The governor of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state, Rizik Zackaria Hassan has instructed the gender and social welfare ministry to review the mandate of civil society and non-governmental organisations operating in the region.

Hassan disclosed this while recently touring the gender, social welfare and development ministry premises in the state.

He said reviewing the mandates of non-governmental entities will directly shape the development path to be taken by these partners.

“Some of these civil societies’ organisation and NGOs become involving in political games instead of collaborating as partners in supporting the state’s development,” said Hassan.

“There are some non-governmental organisations here in the region working as business ventures instead of working towards delivery needs to the citizens as per their mandates,” he added.

However, the governor, despite the directive, also lauded some NGOs their committed roles in changing lives of the population.

More than 150 organisations are likely to be affected by the new directive.
