Six policemen killed, scores injured in Lakes state shooting

April 5, 2015 (RUMBEK) – At least six policemen were killed and a similar number critically injured in a night shooting that occurred in South Sudan’s Lakes state, authorities told Sudan Tribune Sunday.

The incident happened when a police officer who belonged to the operation department that handles night patrols reportedly opened fire on his fellow colleagues.

“At 4.14am (local time) a Rumbek Central county policeman killed his colleagues for unknown reasons. Immediately the same policeman was also killed by his colleagues who witness the shooting,” confirmed an officer from the a Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The injured were rushed to Rumbek Central hospital for further medical attention.

Police recently set up night patrols inside Rumbek town to control the entry of pastoralists with guns into town amid fears they could carry out revenge attacks.
