E. Equatoria state officials criticise anti-government groups

August 8, 2015 (TORIT) – Authorities in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria state have criticised a recent petition from youth and women living in the capital, Juba, which openly exposed the state government.

The Torit county commissioner, German Charles Ojok, condemned the move taken by people he described as power hungry groups.

He summoned leaders of the youth union, civil society organisations and women groups to get their reaction on the recent petition.

Ojok cautioned people in the state to be vigilant and shun any form of activities likely to undermine the duly-elected state government.

“We must to be careful and let us distance ourselves from them,” he said.

The interim youth leadership in the state also condemned the petition, saying it does not represent the views of its members.

The women representative in the state, Dorcus Sunday Oliver said women in the state were not part and partial of the recent petition.

The petition faults the state governor, Louis Lobong, of allegedly failing to tackle insecurity, segregation and retarding development.
