Two cyclists killed in Lakes state ambush

September 19, 2015 (RUMBEK) – Authorities in South Sudan’s Lakes state said unknown gunmen shot and killed two motorcyclists within Roorchuolakol forest area on Friday.

Local police and security agents in the county have been alerted to hunt for the suspects.

A police official identified those killed as Ater Maker Macueng and Makur Deng Ayuor.

“Yes two people were killed and one person was left with gunshot wounds. All their motorcycles were taken by their attackers”, Moses Marial, a police officer said.

“The community and police are searching for the suspected group involved in the killing”.

Residents of Cueibet county have in the past accused their neighbours in Tonj South county of Warrap state of having a hand in such incidences, allegations that were dismissed by the Warrap information and telecommunication minister, Paul Dhel Gum.

“We have no idea of that killing, no such [matter] was received here but we will findout if our state was involved,” said Gum.

Family members of the deceased say the state government did nothing to assist the victims.
