Implementation of security arrangement with ex-Darfur rebels begins in North Darfur

May 15, 2016 (EL-FASHER) – Commissioner of security arrangements at Darfur Regional Authority Babiker Korena said the accommodation of fighters belonging to the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Nour al-Dain Zorgi has begun Sunday in North Darfur state capital, El-Fasher.

Korena, who addressed the 145 fighters at the military training camp in the Jadid Al-Sail area, north of El-Fasher, said the move comes in implantation of the security arrangement item of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).

He pointed that the Security Arrangements Commission is mandated to arrange the status of the fighters belonging to the DDPD signatory groups.

Korena added that the commission has accommodated fighters of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM-Dabago) led by Bakhit Dabago from 2014 to 2016, saying their weapons have been collected and they were compensated.

He pointed that some of the (JEM-Dabago) fighters have been integrated into the Sudanese army.

The commissioner further stressed that they implemented 85% of the security arrangements regarding the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM), saying its fighters have been admitted to the training camps in El-Fasher, Nyala, El-Gineina and Zalingei.

It is noteworthy that two SLM factions led by Zorgi and Salih Adam Ishag have signed an agreement with the Sudanese government in February 2015 and became part of the DDPD.

The DDPD was signed on 11 July 2011 between the Sudanese government and the LJM of Tijani al-Sissi. The Justice and Equality Movement splinter faction led by Bakheit Abdel- Karim Dabajo (JEM-Dabajo) joined the deal on 6 April 2013.
