Two people shot dead by unknown gunmen in Yambio

September 2, 2016 (YAMBIO) – At least two people have been killed by unknown gunmen on Thursday night on their way back home from the suburb of Yambio town in Western Equatoria.

Speaking to the father of the deceased, Alkangelo Please, told Sudan Tribune that his son was killed after trying to return home from Bazungua area where he attended funeral of his mother in-law. But before reaching home he and another lady were shot dead at around 8:40pm, about 6 kilometers away from Yambio town on Maridi road.

“My son Brown Baambaru went to the funeral of his mother in-law in Bazungua area where they decided to go home to bring some items for the funeral but they were killed before reaching home 6 kilometers away from the town [Yambio], Arkangelo said.

He said they recovered their bodies in the following morning on the road after heavy rains at night and all their belongings which included mobile phones, motorbike and wallets, both for his son and the lady, were “not taken by the attackers.”

Late Baambaru was a driver for Medicines Sans Frontier (MSF) in Yambio and the lady killed with him, identified as Margret Minisare, was a member of women group in Catholic Diocese of Tombura, Yambio Diocese.

Daniel Badagbu, may of the town municipal said security forces have been sent to the scene to investigate into the killing of the two and the government was waiting for the report. He however said the killing of the two people is an isolated case because no property of the deceased was taken which shows that the killers were not interested in taking any property of those killed.

Badagbu added that no arrest has been made yet accept one young man who attempted to shoot his colleague and the police arrested him and is currently in police custody in Yambio.

He added that Yambio town remains calm after the killing of the two people by unknown gunmen. He urged the community to give the government information so that it can help the authorities to arrest the culprits to face the law.
