Sudan appreciates Chinese supporting stance at Security Council

Thursday, the Minister described the recent Security Council resolution on Darfur as unbalanced and would hamper the efforts being exerted by the African Union for solving the African conflicts in the African framework, adding that the resolution gave negative signals to the Abuja negotiations on Darfur issue.

The minister affirmed that Sudan is committed to implement the UN resolution, calling on China to put pressure on the rebels to implement their commitments according to the resolution and to sign the agreed upon humanitarian work protocol, which was achieved at Abuja negotiations.

The minister called on China to work with the other members of the Security Council to assure the responsibility of the African Union for solving the conflict in Darfur and boosting the role of the regional organization, in conformity with chapter eight of the UN Charter.

The minister said Sudan looks forward that the Security Council would not take any procedures that contradict with the government’s commitments in Ndjamena Agreement, the resolutions of the African Union, the agreement signed with the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, in last July and the agreement signed with the UN Representative in Sudan, Jan Pronk.

The Chinese Ambassador expressed the satisfaction of his country with the government positive dealing with the Security Council resolution, affirming the keenness of his country to follow up implementation of Sudan government to its commitments according to the resolution of the Security Council and the resolution of the African Union concerning Abuja talks.
