Jordan offers humanitarian aids for Sudan’s Darfur

Jordanian_King.jpgAMMAN, Oct 10, 2004 (Xinhua) — A Jordanian medical team left here Sunday aboard a special plane for Sudan’s western Darfur region, the state-run Petra News Agency reported.

The medical team, including 17 doctors and technicians, was toprovide humanitarian assistance to those needy in the troubled region.

The plane also carried 16 tons of medical drugs and various medical equipment with a total value of more than 200,000 US dollars.

Darfur, an impoverished region in western part of Sudan, grabbed global attention early this year after the United Nations officials reported a serious humanitarian crisis unfolding in the area, where two rebel forces have fought mounted militia since February 2003.

The conflict has left many dead and thousand others displaced. The United Nations urged the Sudanese government in a Sept. 18 resolution to speed up efforts to rein in militia and provide aids to suffered people.
