Ugandan president to attend UN security council meeting on Sudan crisis

KAMPALA, Nov 16, 2004 (Xinhua) — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is expected in Kenya on Wednesday for a two-day United Nations Security Council meeting to promote Sudan peace process, reported state-owned newspaper The New Vision on Tuesday.

The meeting is to be attended by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan as well as presidents of Nigeria, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Djibouti, Somalia and Eritrea.

Museveni is chairman of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) comprising seven east African countries.

Nigeria is currently chairman of the African Union (AU).

Last Saturday, Museveni discussed in Kampala with the Sudan peace process mediation team to the IGAD on the issues pertaining to the ongoing peace process in Sudan.
