President Isayas tours development projects in western Eritrean

BARENTU, Nov 20, 2004 (ERINA) — President Isayas Afewerki conducted a two-day tour in the sub-zones of Guluj, Haykota and Teseney, in the Gash-Barka Region [in western Eritrea, bordering Ethiopia] to observe developmental programmes carried out in the year 2004 and launch agricultural and infrastructure activities set for the upcoming year.

It is to be noted that President Isayas has been, from time to time, inspecting the ongoing developmental activities. The president, during his current visit, made an inspection tour on soil and water conservation activities, programmes set for renovating important bridges and construction of roads carried out within the framework of the Warsay-Yikaalo [military-driven development campaign] national development campaign, by the general public and the Segen Construction Company.

Continuing his tour in the region, President Isaias crossed a number of villages making his way to the Milezanai hills and observed the new road constructed from Tsa’eda Christian to Mensura. The President then gave work directives to local construction companies to work jointly with the public initiated important infrastructural activity.

Taking into account the importance of having developed infrastructure as a major factor that lays enabling conditions for the public to effectively exploit the natural resources of the country, the Government of Eritrea has been giving serious attention to this sector ever since independence.

Reports of the year 2004 indcated that extensive efforts are in progress for upgrading the higway and road network of Eritrea thereby boosting the economy of the country. In this regard, President Isaias has been continuously inspecting ongoing developmental activities in different corners of the country and raising the morale of the people engaged in the devevelpment projects.

During his two-days tour, President Isaias was accompanied by the commanders of the commander of the 4th operation command, Major general Haile Samuel; commander of the 5th operation command, Major General Ghebregziabhier Andemariam; commander of the First operation command, Major General Tekle Kiflai; Mr. Ali Abdu from the Ministry of Information; and the General Manager of the Ghedem Construction Company, Mr. Mebrahtu Ma’eel.
