Postponement of Nakuru negotiations likely: FM

KHARTOUM, July 20 (AFP) — Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail believes the next round of peace talks with the rebel movement in Nakuru, Kenya, this week could be postponed.

“It is likely that the round of negotiations may be postponed as the originally set date (July 23) is too near to allow the parties time to prepare for the talks,” the Minister told reporters here Sunday.

He said government officials had told US peace envoy John Danforth, during his recent visit to Khartoum, that the round of talks would better be postponed for a few days “until the circumstances are favourable for their success”.

Although he said his government was not officially notified of any postponement, Dr. Ismail expects the negotiations may delayed for a week.
