At least seven persons killed in Sudan ammunition depot blast
KHARTOUM, Feb 23 (AFP) — At least seven people were killed and 13 injured Wednesday when an ammunition depot exploded in Juba, the biggest city in southern Sudan, SUNA news agency reported.
Armed forces spokesman General Al-Abbas Abdel Rahman al-Khalifa was quoted as saying the warehouse blew up, causing a series of explosions and scattering live fragments.
Fires broke out in the vicinity of the warehouse but were extinguished, he said, adding a committee has been set up by the armed forces to find out the cause of the explosion.
He ruled out “any hostile act behind the incident”, SUNA said, adding that its own sources said seven persons were killed and 13 others injured and rushed to hospital.
An unconfirmed report put the dead at more than 20 people.
