Tanzania condemns killings in Sudan’s Darfur

DAR ES SALAAM, April 18 (Xinhua) — Tanzania has condemned the reported killings in Sudan’s troubled Darfur region earlier this month and blamed the Sudanese authorities for not taking stern actions against the killers.

The Tanzanian foreign ministry said in a statement available on Monday the country was shocked by the news that there were massive killings in western Darfur.

“Tanzania is irked by Sudan for not allowing in the African Union (AU) peace-keeping commission in time to deploy peace- keeping armies as per AU resolution,” said the statement.

“Tanzania is supporting the United Nations as well as the African Union in strongly condemning the killings and other evil acts going on in Darfur,” the statement added.

Tanzania has urged the Sudanese authorities to ensure that culprits be dealt with so as to stop re-occurrence of cruelty.

The United Nations Security Council has required that all who were involved in the killings and human rights violation in Darfur should appear before the International Criminal Court.
