Sudanese official, US senator tour Southern Darfur State
KHARTOUM, May 2, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — The ruling National Congress secretary-general, Mahdi Ibrahim, toured Southern Darfur State with US Senator Maria Cantwell.
They were received upon arrival by Southern Darfur Governor Eng Al-Haj Ata al-Mannan and other state officials. The governor briefed them on the latest developments in the State.
He pointed out that the humanitarian situation had drastically improved adding that efforts were being made to reconcile the tribes and provide humanitarian aid to the affected victims.
For his part Mahdi Ibrahim said that he was happy with the improvement of the situation in Darfur and urged the residents of Darfur to work towards achieving stability in the region.
