Sudanese opposition Islamist party to hold talks over lifting of ban
KHARTOUM, May 8, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — The leadership council of the suspended Popular National Congress party (PNC), of Hassan al-Turabi, will tomorrow hold talks with the registrar of political parties, Mohamed Ahmad Salim.
The PNC is making the effort in a bid to follow-up its application to the registrar’s office last week seeking the ban on its activities lifted after it was acquitted in a court of law of charges levelled against it following the recent coup attempt.
According to the pro-governmental Sudan Media Centre (SMC), sources confirmed the PNC was preparing to get clarification on the legal position regarding the lifting of ban on its political activities.
Turabi’s party was suspended following accusations of similar coup attempts back in April last year.
