Arab League head meets Sudan’s Ummah Party leader
CAIRO, Aug 25, 2003 (MENA) — Arab League Secretary-General Amr Musa discussed with opposition Sudanese Ummah Party leader Sadiq al- Mahdi on Monday the developments in Sudan.
Talks also covered suggestions to activate the Arab League’s role in Sudan in light of the almost-failure of the last round of peace talks between the Sudanese government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).
Speaking to reporters, Al-Mahdi underlined the importance that the Arab League would help all sides in Sudan know how to achieve peace and democracy in Sudan.
He said Musa was fully understanding of the Sudanese issue, adding that a concerned ministerial committee will discuss how to overcome the hurdles that faced the last round of peace negotiations.
