Eritrean president leaves for Libya to participate in Darfur summit

ASMARA, May 15, 2005 (Shabait) — President Isaias Afwerki left for Libya this morning upon an invitation extended to him by the Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi to participate in the heads of state meeting for the discussion of the Sudanese peace matters in general and the Darfur situation in particular.

Reports further indicated that the meeting that will commence in the Libyan capital, Tripoli tomorrow may 16th 2005 will include the Libyan, Eritrean, Egyptian, the Sudanese, Chadian and Nigerian heads of state.

Various ministers and senior government officials saw off the president this morning upon his departure from the Asmara international airport.
